The Minnesota Cattlemen's Association was organized 44 years ago as a non-profit corporation. Our purpose as an organization is to advertise, improve the quality of and aid in the sale of beef cattle, help maintain a code of ethics between the buyers and/or sellers of our cattle, promote a spirit of cooperation, friendship and mutual understanding among producers of beef cattle in this region.
Our association has 69 members and they are from Cass, Wadena, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Aitkin and Todd counties. Our membership represents approximately ten thousand beef cows. Our member's ranch sizes range from 10 - 900 head of mother cows. The members are their own agents and are not dictated by the association/membership nor are they obligated to sell their cattle through any association activities.
Historically we have been hosting an annual beef tour of our member's cattle. The tour is held in August and rotates from the north half to the south half of our membership's geographical location. Tour buses and lunch is provided, which has been used to give an opportunity for buyers and sellers to get together.
We also own and maintain our own scale yard, which has a one time capacity of 650 head and three semi load outs, which has been very convenient for both buyers and sellers.
In order to stay in touch with the current market trends, some of our members participated in the Minnesota Beef Quality Assurance certification, which is listed in their calf crop details. Education has been an important part of our association.
